The regular shift flex time is the window you allow employees to sign in or during which it will automatically default to the beginning of the shift without asking a lot of questions about what you are doing. For example, shifts starts at 7 AM (regular shift). The window is set to 10 min before to 5 min after. I sign in at 6:55AM. When I enter my password, boom, I signed in. No more screens, no options, just signed in. If I sign in at 6:45 AM, it will ask what am I doing - changing core hours, earning comp, earning credit, etc. Same if I sign in at 7:04. When I enter my password, boom, I signed in. But if I signed in at 7:06, it will ask me how I want to account for time - annual, sick, etc. The idea is to establish the window so that it would provide the fastest sign in sign out process. If you don't want that automatic feature, set the window to 0. The flex time window (hard flex) establishes for flex shifts how long the flex is. If it is set to 30 min before and 0 minutes after, and I have a 7:00 AM shift, I can come in as early as 6:30. If I sign in at 6:32, as soon as I put my password in, boom, I signed in at 6:32 and my shift end time is 14:32. If I sign in at 6:25, it asks what am I earning. If If I sign in at 7:05, it asks what am I using. Again, the purpose of that feature is to allow quick sign in that occur during that flex window. Usually, the flex is only on one side of the shift - 7 AM shift but you can come in up to 30 min early, or 7 AM shift and you can come in up to 30 min after, and you shift automatically adjusts. Now the new type of shift is a soft flex. This means you can flex in but you can elect to earn credit or comp instead of using the flex. So I can arrive at 6:30, and instead of adjusting my core hours, I earn credit from 6:30 to 7 and work my regular 7 to 3. In the hard flex when I enter my password within the window I don't get those options, it just signs me in. |
